Motor Vehicle Crime and Burglary Are Rising on the Ward

We have recently seen an increase in reports of both motor vehicle crime and burglary across the ward. While the police continue to investigate these offences and carry out patrols in affected areas, residents can play an important role in helping to prevent crime by taking some simple but effective security measures.

Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention

Criminals often target vehicles that are insecure or contain visible valuables. To reduce the risk:

Always lock your vehicle, even if leaving it unattended for only a short time.

Remove all valuables from sight, including bags, mobile phones, sat navs and charging cables.

Ensure windows, sunroofs and doors are fully closed and secured.

Use additional security devices such as steering wheel locks, alarms or tracking systems.

Park in well-lit areas where possible.

Never leave vehicle keys near front doors, windows or letterboxes where they could be stolen during a burglary.

Burglary Prevention

Burglars will often look for homes that appear unoccupied or have weak security. Residents are encouraged to:

Always lock doors and windows, even when at home.

Keep valuables out of sight from windows.

Install and maintain good-quality door and window locks.

Use outdoor lighting and consider a video doorbell or CCTV system.

Keep hedges and fences maintained to remove places where offenders can hide.

Ask trusted neighbours to keep an eye on your property when you are away.

Mark valuable property and keep a record of serial numbers where possible.

Protecting Your Community

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, persons or vehicles to the police. In an emergency, always call 999. For non-emergency incidents or to report information, please contact the police on 101 or use the online reporting service.

By working together and adopting good security habits, we can help reduce opportunities for criminals and keep our community safe.
